Alternative Ways To Save Images From PowerPoint
Although Microsoft does not offer a direct way to save multiple images from Office PowerPoint, there are methods that you can use to extract images from slides:
Method 1 – Copy and Paste the image from the slide
Open your presentation in PowerPoint and Select the image you wish to extract. Right-click the image and select “Copy”. Now the image is copied to your device’s memory and can be pasted elsewhere.
Method 2 – Saving the Image (PowerPoint desktop)
Open your presentation in PowerPoint and Select the image you wish to extract. Right-click the image and select “Save As Picture”. In the image saving dialog box, you can select the image file format and the location for the saved file on your local device.
Method 3 – Download the Presentation Slide With the Image
Open your presentation in PowerPoint and Select the slide you wish to download (the slide containing the image). Click the “File” menu and select “Download” (Online version) or “Save As” (Desktop version). In the sub-menu options, you can choose to save the current slide in JPEG, PNG, or SVG formats.
Remember that the entire slide will be saved as an image and you’ll need to crop the slide image if you only wish to save the specific image you need.
Method 4 – Manually Extract Images From PowerPoint
- Open your presentation in Microsoft PowerPoint.
- Click the “File” menu and select “Download”->”Microsoft PowerPoint (.pptx)” (online) of “Save As” (desktop) to save the presentation on your local device. You can skip this step if you already have your presentation as a pptx file, but we do recommend you make a copy of it before proceeding.
- Rename your presentation file from .pptx to .zip extension. PPTX files are actually a zip file that can be extracted with the appropriate file extension.
- Extract the renamed .zip file to access all the internal files of the presentation.
- Now you can search for any image files within the extracted content. In many cases, you will find the media files if you navigate to the “ppt” folder and look for a subfolder named “media”.

What is Microsoft PowerPoint PPTX File Format?
The PPTX file format is a modern version of Microsoft’s PowerPoint presentation files. Introduced with PowerPoint 2007, it replaced the older PPT format. PPTX files are widely used for creating slideshows, presentations, and reports.
One major advantage of PPTX files is their small size. They use XML (Extensible Markup Language), which compresses the data. This means faster file transfers and more efficient storage. Additionally, PPTX files are less likely to get corrupted than older formats.
PPTX files support multimedia elements. You can easily add images, videos, audio, and animations. These features make presentations more dynamic and engaging. The format also supports a wide range of design templates and themes.
Compatibility is another strength of PPTX files. They can be opened and edited with many presentation software programs, not just PowerPoint. Google Slides, Apple Keynote, and various open-source software can handle PPTX files. This makes sharing and collaboration easier across different platforms.
In summary, PPTX is a versatile and efficient file format for modern presentations. Its ability to handle multimedia, combined with its smaller file size and compatibility, makes it a preferred choice for professionals and students alike. Whether for business, education, or personal use, PPTX files help create impactful and visually appealing presentations.
